Chess 4 Charity

A student of mine is involved with chess charity and raising money for children’s causes. Please spread the word about the upcoming tournament on October 15 and chess4charity.org in general. From the organizers, I have received the following:

“Here’s a great event in the chess community that you should be aware of. Chess 4 Charity (www.chess4charity.org), is a non-profit which holds semi-annual charity chess tournaments to raise money for children’s causes.  The next Chess 4 Charity tournament is coming up Sunday, October 15, in McLean Virginia.  If you live near there, I hope you can sign up and play in the tournament.

Sabina Foisor, the US Women’s Chess Champ, will be giving a presentation before the main event, then there will be a chess tournament for all ages and all skill levels, a silent auction, raffle, and a simul after the main event.  All proceeds are going to the Childhood Brain Tumor Foundation (CBTF). To find out more info and/or to sign up, go to www.chess4charity.org.

Even if you don’t live nearby, or cannot play in the tournament, you can still make a tax-deductible donation to the CBTF via Chess 4 Charity here: https://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/chess4charity/CBTF    This is a great event in the chess community, and they have already raised over $30,000 for various causes since 2011.

If you don’t live near there, and might be interested in holding a similar event in your area, please reach out to [email protected] and they can help you learn how to start your own charity event without reinventing the wheel.“
