I am finalizing the 4th book in the Wild Brainteasers-series at the moment, Checkmate Quiz 4, and there are plenty of good leftover puzzles. Therefore, I have decided to create 5 extra checkmate quizzes for this blog. You can find them below.
I have decided to start online chess classes on a more systematic basis – much like an online chess school.
Phase 1: General classes start on April 25/27 in 2026. These classes do not have a fixed curriculum – instead, new material will be presented each week:
An online class by me starts on Monday in the Marshall Chess Club and runs for 5 Mondays. The dates are 10/28 – 11/4 – 11/11 – 11/18 – 11/25 at 6-7pm. Sign up for the online class using this link:
Complex endgames are endgames with at least 2 pieces, with elements of the middlegame, and where difficult decisions still need to be made in terms of exchanges and pawn advances, before the position settles into something more familiar in terms of basic or technical endgames. We analyze games from participants, if submitted. Hand in at least 3 days before the day of class. Otherwise, we will analyze interesting endgames from chess history.
The first two books in the Checkmate Quiz-series are out, and the third and fourth book are yet to be published. However, I have already written the preface for all 4 books.
My new book series about checkmates with names has been launched! The first 2 books have been published, the third one is on the way and will appear later in 2024.
Checkmate Quiz is a new way of presenting checkmates. Rather than just solving the checkmating puzzles, the correct name of the mate must be chosen from a list and match the position for extra points.
The Introduction in Checkmate Quiz 1 takes the reader on a tour de force through the history of naming checkmates and presents the most important 61 checkmates based on 5 main categories.
